Just in case you hadn't realized, our story about a Zoom video call being powered by Google's Sycamore quantum computer was an April Fool's joke.

But judging by your comments on Twitter, it looks like many of you enjoyed the tale. We certainly had fun imagining a Zoom call where you could be on mute and not mute at the same time – or even simultaneously in multiple breakout rooms.

Remember, if you want proper quantum stories, do visit the dedicated Physics World quantum channel.

Zurich Instruments launches the SHFSG

Zurich Instruments launches the SHFSG, the first signal generator specially designed for superconducting and spin qubits

The SHFSG takes advantage of the super-heterodyne frequency conversion technique to ensure better linearity and fewer spurious tones than with standard IQ-mixer-based methods. It can be programmed to generate complex pulse sequences. As a result, the SHFSG generates clean and stable signals without requiring users to spend time on mixer calibration or system maintenance. The integrated synthesizers help to increase the fidelity of qubit gate operations thanks to their low phase noise and low timing jitter across the entire output frequency range.

Who said that Raman imaging is not user-friendly?

Raman microscopy can have the reputation of being difficult to handle. But with all HORIBA Scientific recent developments it has become much easier for non-experts to access.

Join the upcoming webinar "Who said that Raman imaging is not user-friendly?" presented by Ludivine Fromentoux and Thibault Brulé, a live event on 8 April 2021 (4 p.m. CEST), to understand how automation and all HORIBA Scientific software apps help to resolve the daily challenges of Raman microscopists.
